Perenne is the dry part above ground of Compositae plant. Peilan is pungent in taste and flat in nature. It belongs to the lung, spleen and stomach meridians. Peilan is an important aromatic and dampness removing medicine in traditional Chinese medicine. Its main efficacy is to awaken the spleen and remove dampness. It can treat abdominal distension caused by dampness trapped in the spleen and stomach. It doesn't want to eat, and its mouth is sweet and greasy. It is often used with Agastache rugosa, lotus leaf and Magnolia officinalis. The second is to remove heat and turbidity, and to treat cold and heat headache caused by heat dampness (i.e. cold in summer). It is often used with talc, white lentils and Elsholtzia.
